The premise of the show is that a group of freedom fighters in the future are sentence to death for the killing and destruction the group has rained down on a society controlled by corporations. The freedom fighters who want to reinstall democracy use the proposed instrument of their destruction to go back in time to change the timeline.
Kiera gets caught in the devices wave and ends up in the present day as the only person who knows what is going on with a group that wants to change the power of corporations by changing the events that establish that power.
It is clear that the future, where corporations restrict freedoms and oppress people, is not one that any sane American would want, and it is one that the real America is headed for. There is no reason why anyone should be rooting for the protagonist. If she succeeds, the United States will be plunged into corporate rule.
However, the freedom fighters of Liber8 kill without conscience. The way that they want to achieve their vision is so brutal and violent that there is no way that anyone can root for them to win, even if they are technically on the side of the greater good. They just commit too many acts of lesser evils to bring about the change.
They prove that the ends do not justify the means.
Continuum can be seen on Netflix and the SyFy network. You should check it out.
