Delta Airlines teams with Salt Lake Valley Habitat for humanity
Delta Airlines and the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity have teamed up to renovate a house for a family in Salt Lake City. The family chosen to live at the house located at 275 N 800 W is benefiting from Delta’s Force for Global Good program and Habitat for humanity’s goal to provide safe and affordable housing.
“This is as close to winning the lottery as [a family] is going to get,” says Gene Chun, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Delta Airlines flight attendant.
The family will get an interest-free loan for the house with a term of 20 to 40 years depending on what the family can afford to pay. They are also required to work for 225 hours on a Habitat for Humanity project and take classes that include budgeting and bill paying information.
Delta is using the money that it gets for recycling its cans and bottles to fund the remodel.
“It’s a win-win situation,” says Chun.
Delta’s decision to fund a home in Salt Lake City comes from the fact that this is their third largest hub.
“The community has been good to [Delta]; we’re going to be good to them,” says Chun.
Delta is also funding five other homes throughout the world; all of which are expected to be finished by the end of October.
