If the shoe fits: Cinderella review
Frozen Fever
I was more excited for the short than the actual film. (Check out my Frozen review.) Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. The song seemed forced and uninspired. There are some funny moments, but overall, “Frozen Fever” was lacking in what made the film so popular. While it was good to see all of the characters from the movie and the references to the movie were really cleverly done, it may have just been that the short was too short. Cinderella (Spoiler Alert) This film has been out quite a while, and it is part of the reason that Disney has already seen its box office take go beyond $1 billion for 2015. Everyone should know Cinderella, this movie does nothing more than flesh out the story from the 1950 Disney animated classic. The standout performance in this film goes to Cate Blanchett, who snarls and plays the villain as well as any actor on record. Her first scene is breath-taking as she reveals the core of her character while a voice-over distracts the viewer just long enough to make Blanchett’s impact all the more powerful. The other actors do well, but one actor steals every scene he is in. Tom Edden as the Lizard Footman is equal parts caring, wise and terrifying, the credit for which should go to make up and design. Even though this isn’t the musical you know, Cinderella uses its music to beautiful effect, including Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly), a song made famous by Burl Ives in So Dear to My Heart. With wisdom like “Have courage. Be kind” and “Names have power,” Cinderella is worth a view. Plus, you will get to see Helena Bonham Carter in the role of the Fairy Godmother.
