Trip down memory lane will help you get more 'Extra magic Days'
Bill Gowsell’s “Extra Magic Days: Thirty Years of Walt Disney World Vacations” effectively answers the question that it begs the prospective book buyer to ask – why would anyone want to read a book about another family’s vacations?
Gowsell writes the book by using his extraordinary memory, the interviewing of other family members or a trip through the family photo album though it is never really clear how he gained or retained the information from his earliest trips through those of the present. In the end, it doesn’t matter as he walks down the memory of the time he spent in Walt Disney world throughout his youth and through having a family of his own. His explanation of events is told through the eyes of a child afraid of the fast rides and the perspective shifts as he gets older and starts enjoying things like Star Tours. By going through his childhood trips, the reader is giving the opportunity to experience the Walt Disney World of the past. His recollections also feature a side bar at Universal Studios and a side trip to Disneyland Paris. While the reader may not always agree with Gowsell’s opinion of certain attractions (Captain EO is totally worth more than 1 viewing!), the enjoyment that comes with spending time at Walt Disney World is sure to flow from the book through the memory and into the reader today. That makes “Extra Magic Days” every bit as magical as the place it is about. |
