DegreePlus offers students the best value in Malta's culture and heritage
The University of Malta’s DegreePlus program has one course that every student, foreign and Maltese, should take – Culture and Heritage. For 15 Euros, students enrolled in this class get to visit 7 sites that are significant to Maltese history and culture. The class includes all entry fees, transportation to and from the university and a tour guide for the group at each of the sites. This is easily the best deal that anyone could get for all of the sited visited.
A typical semester will feature trips to places like:
Hagar Qim – the oldest freestanding manmade structure in the world. It is classified as a temple, but the truth is that very little is known about the people who built it or why they built it. By the time that the permanent residents of Malta arrived, those who built the temple had disappeared.
Domus Romana – the best preserved example of Roman architecture on the island, this house features statues and mosaics. It also shows how the Romans dealt with the heat of Malta.
Ghar Dalam – Malta’s Limestone cave once created by a river. This is the site where the evidence of dwarf animals, like the hippopotamus and elephant, was found.
National Museum of Archaeology – This museum houses all of the treasures found at Malta’s temple sites including the famous Sleeping Lady.
For foreign students, Culture and Heritage adds something to the education experience in Malta different from widely visited Paceville. For the Maltese, it offers an opportunity to learn about their own country and its rich and valuable history.
