Don't worry about those TPS reports at D'Office
During my recent stay at the Palazzo Prince d’Orange, I was able to visit D’Office, a quaint bistro near the center of Valletta. We ordered the cheese platter deal that came with two glasses of wine. The soup of the day, which was mushroom, and a brie tart.
The Maltese bread and the sun-dried tomato butter that started the meal promised to bring better food. The bread’s consistency was perfect while the butter with its chunks of tomatoes provided a flavorful alternative to oil or regular butter.
The cheese platter, served with Maltese crackers called galletti, had sage, Mexican, and brie cheeses, and ġbejniet, a Maltese cheese. There was a small salad as garnish on the side that consisted of rocket leaves, romaine, olives and tomatoes. The Mexican chees and smoky flavored brie were the biggest hits on the platter.
The mushroom soup was absolutely fabulous, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t really like mushrooms. It had a great consistency, but it was the flavor that really stood out. It was spiced just enough to bring out the good earthy flavors of the mushrooms. A hint of cream rounded out the flavor.
While the food was excellent, the service was also something special for Malta. Our waiter was funny and personable, and the meal arrived much more swiftly than we had anticipated. It is often hard to find good staff. Fortunately, D’Office has.
D’Office is located at 132 Archbishop Street. Seating is available indoors and out, and a bicycle carrying the menu and a plant basket marks the restaurant. I am hoping to go back to try the pumpkin risotto.
