Vic Mignogna's career is planning meets opportunity, voice actor remains humble and brings love to fans
Vic Mignogna says that his favorite character to play was Ed from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
“I played that little pipsqueak longer than any other character,” says Mignogna, but Tamaki is a close second. His top three leading ladies are:
Mignogna cast Todd Haberkorn in Mignogna’s dream production Star Trek Continues. Haberkorn plays Mr. Spock to Mignogna’s Captain Kirk. “Todd Haberkorn is like the annoying little brother that I never had,” says Mignogna. “I love him.” “He’s a great kid. He’s very talented and on the rise.” Mignogna fell in love with Ouran High School Host Club before anyone had the rights to it in the U.S., and before he was cast to play any part in it. Mignogna and Voice Acting Someone suggested that he try out for a role. He did. “I got cast as Vega in Street Fighter II,” says Mignogna. “That was a fun one time thing.” Mignogna went back to composing and music. He then got a call for another show and then another and then another. He ended up going to an anime convention and meeting with Funimation; after that he got jobs with them. “I didn’t do it. I just walked through the door,” says Mignogna. “I didn’t plan this career.” It is important for people to be ready to walk through the door when it opens. “I have been developing skills since I was very young, and that’s important,” says Mignogna. Who you know might get you in the door, but what you do will keep you there. “The key word in ‘voice acting’ is ‘acting,’” says Mignogna. “Voice acting is about playing a character.” People who want to work in any field need to be in the right place. “You go to the places where the opportunities for certain things are prevalent,” says Mignogna. Fan Satisfaction Mignogna is very involved with making sure that those who come to see him get the opportunity to make a personal connection beyond a few pleasantries and a handshake. “Everybody gets hugs, even the boys. It’s not weird; it’s just love,” says Mignogna, who takes pride in his fan base. One woman at Salt Lake Comic Con 2014 got a hug and a kiss from Mignogna while he answered her question about getting a hug. MIgnogna wanted to do one better. The woman’s breath was taken away as she said, “You’re my first kiss, FYI.” It was a sweet moment for both of them and the audience. |
