When your life revolves around cheese, try the Cheese Bomb
The Satellite Diner in Spokane may have been sold to me as a greasy spoon diner – a place to get comfort food with some vegetarian items on the menu, but this friendly, little eatery in the heart of Spokane’s downtown area is certainly more upscale in quality than the term “greasy spoon” would suggest.
My first meal was the grilled pesto and cheese. A flavorful delight grilled to perfection with the house made beer battered fries perfect for dipping in your favorite condiment. This meal, combined with the intrigue presented by the extreme eating option called the Cheese Bomb, inspired a return trip the next night in Spokane. (I like cheese.)
Reading the description of the Cheese Bomb, it may seem like it would be too heavy for a decent meal. With Parmesan bread, and provolone and cheddar melted on the inside, this would already be a cheese lover’s dream. Throw in the mozzarella sticks at the center of it all, and you have the makings for something that will clog your arteries.
Fortunately, this sandwich is the right size for all that cheese. It isn’t overwhelming, which is a good thing. It also wasn’t as greasy as I thought it would be. The side of marinara sauce cut the fat of the cheese and made this a great meal to eat. While I ordered the fries again, I didn’t finish them all because CHEESE.
The wait staff was amazingly friendly and the food was quick. If you are in Spokane for any reason, this is one place that you should choose to eat at – yes, they have non-vegetarian items, too.
