What makes Dirk Benedict proud? at Malta Comics Expo 2014
In his third session at Malta Comics Expo 2014, Dirk Benedict talked about the two things, of which he is really proud – parenthood and his book Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy.
Being a single father is the best thing that he has ever done. He has raised two sons, one of whom is a professional soccer player. From his conversation with those in attendance, it is clear that Benedict loves both of his sons. “It’s what I am leaving the world,” says Benedict. Kamikaze Cowboy is based on Benedict’s experience with recovering from disease and living a healthy lifestyle. Originally written in the 1980s, the book was purchased by a larger book company who refused to publish it. Benedict has the rights now, and the book is available through Amazon.com and excerpts are posted on Benedict’s official website. Benedict is a vegetarian and believes that people should be responsible for themselves. “Your life is your responsibility,” says Benedict. If somebody calls with something interesting, Benedict is willing to do it. He played Columbo in a stage production in 2010. He has also enjoyed his relative anonymity in Montana. “That’s [anonymity] where real life is lived,” says Benedict. Benedict praised the organizers of the Malta Comics Expo 2014 and expects that the next one will be even better. “This was a very courageous thing to do,’ says Benedict.
