Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation ridiculous Cruisey fun
Short Review: Tom Cruise meets his match in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. A decent action movie that delivers everything promised by the franchise and the trailer.
Spoiler Alert The 5th installment delivers everything that you want in a Mission Impossible movie… as long as you aren’t a fan of the television because there could’ve been some cameos… Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation features Tom Cruise doing lots of Tom Cruisey things like running and ridiculous jumping and defying death in time to drive a car ridiculously through the streets of Morocco. If you get the feeling that I do not like Cruise, you are right. However, his presence in this film is actually a positive. Ethan Hunt shows his flaws, even if he continues to be super human – an athletic god with an eidetic memory… Maybe, I am just jealous. The good news is that Hunt is teamed with another super-agent, Ilsa Faust (played by Rebecca Ferguson) who is his equal in every way, and this agent is a woman. So, sure, there is one scene where, for some reason, Hunt takes control of Faust’s gun as they do a dance of death with the bad guys shooting at them. Otherwise, Faust is capable of doing Tom Cruisey things and does them just as well as Tom Cruise himself. The opening stunt is intense and much better than what I had seen in the trailer, and the new take on the famous theme song was good. Of course, the real question comes for the next film… Will MI 6 tie into the James Bond storyline? Because that would be amazing – especially if they could get Michael Bay to direct. |
