Think Tank 2
Issue 1:2, April 2001
The Illogical Consequences of the Original
The first issue of Think Tank 2 is hot off the presses, and you are invited to participate. The original Think Tank was inspired by my wish to gather all of my friends together and have them solve the problems of the world – or at least give me some food for thought. It was also seen as a forum for creative writing skills.
In the best case scenario, it was to be a forum for discussing ideas and differing viewpoints over a series of issues. (I was intrigued by a book I read about the thaw in Prague and the philosophical arguments between authors spread not only over the course of months, but also throughout several magazines.) I do not have the resources to put out more than one “magazine,” but I figured that’s all it would take.
Think Tank 2 is an extension of that but with a twist. Our world is grey. Believe it or not, we have succumbed to the mediocre, and all of our struggles appear to be in vain. I was ever good at tilting windmills; I have tried to vanquish giants; I will not surrender. I expect that you feel the same, so this Think Tank is going into the absurd.
Yes, I hope to bring you the same high quality essays, rants, raves and fiction of the Think Tank before. I also hope to add some of the absurd, more of the comedy and possibly some ideas for making the world (or at least the U.S.) a more interesting place to play.
This is not to say that I won’t address the serious, just to say that life needs to be enjoyed. I will live it my way.
As always, you are invited to contribute. Without you and your input, this will be somewhat less exciting. Write about anything that strikes your fancy. I just ask that you remember one thing… I am a man of limited means, so if your writing has a lot of pages, it may not get published. Then again, it could get published in parts.
Anyone confused yet? Good, let’s keep it that way. Ambiguity is my most important ally – and my greatest enemy. Strange how that works.
I look forward to your participation in this second experiment. So until next issue, live well, play nice… well, just play.
Peace
