Take a break from expensive at Khlebomyas in downtown Khabarovsk
While “KhleboMyas” translates into “bread-meat,” don’t let the name fool you. There are a couple of vegetarian options on the menu -- in the form of falafel. One sandwich has a soft bun and includes lettuce, tomatoes and hummus. The Hare Krishna replaces the bun with a lettuce wrap. Both are good, but I preferred the bun.
The restaurant itself, which is on Muravyov-Amurskaya, featured Bon Jovi on heavy rotation when we visited. The cashiers, cooks and barista were dressed in gingham and overalls that had names painted on them. All of the tables and chairs are up high, so short people should be prepared to climb.
Khlebomyas was a nice break from the expensive sit-down restaurants that feature non-descript food and a darker atmosphere. The price was right, and finding a vegetarian delight in a country full of meat-eaters was a pleasant surprise. If you’re in Khabarovsk and you want a quick meal, try KhleboMyas.
