Speakers’ Club Rules
Bring your questions about American culture.
Warm up:
Win, Lose or Draw: Draw what’s on the card until your team guesses correctly.
One of These Things Is Not Like the Others: 4 words, say which one is not like the others and why the others are similar.
Planning the Perfect Halloween Party:
Snacks are essential for any party. On Halloween your table should have more than just a bowlful of candy. Fortunately, there are many types of foods you can serve and keep the spooky spirit alive:
Drinks should include apple cider and witches’ brew. Something bubbly and smoky is always fun. Add some dry ice to get the fogging affect (just handle with care).
Once you have the food planned out, you need some decorations. These can be simple, like black and orange crepe paper streamers, or more complex, like full on haunted house complete with ghost holograms. Generally, electric candles, fake spider webs and spiders to go in them, jack-o-lanterns and cutout ghosts are enough to set the scene.
Music is a good way to get the party started. See this page for the top tunes. Add in “A Nightmare on My Street,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “This Is Halloween” and "Don’t Fear the Reaper.” If you’re friends don’t dance, you can set up scary sound effects.
Games are always fun. You could play pin the boo on the ghost or witch hat ring toss. Find out who can come up with the spookiest story. Bobbing for apples and donuts on a string are classic. Put peeled grapes and cold cooked spaghetti in a paper bag and ask what the guests feel - eyeballs and worms are the correct answer. Grab some rolls of toilet paper (3 or 4), get a team together and see who can make a mummy the fastest.
Preparing for the upcoming New Year’s celebration.
Writing a book group: Tales from Far East Russia, the Blago blog…
