Time is different in the fairy world of 'Flicker'
Kaye Thornbrugh’s “Flicker” is a tale of fairies that allows the reader to intimately experience what traveling to the Otherworld might be like for a normal. In the Other world, time doesn’t pass the same as it does in the real world, and “Flicker” may leave you with that same feeling as you speed through pages and look up to find a relatively small amount of time has passed.
Teenager Lee wanders into the realm of fairies and loses 7 years of her life. When she is rescued, it kicks of a series of events that affects the powerful in the fey world and those mortals that are a part of her life. While Lee has lost family and friends from her past, her new friends help her navigate a new-to-her world – one of winged creatures and magic. Thornbrugh connects her magic with creation. It can be found in the arts of music, painting, and something even more surprising that is a genuine joy to discover (so I will leave it for you to do so). If you are tired of zombies, vampires and werewolves, “Flicker” may be the novel for you. I’m not saying that they don’t exist in Thornbrugh’s world, just that they aren’t the focus. |
