Cavalieri Art Hotel hosts Abela's 5th exhibition
Anton Abela opened his 5th solo art exhibition on 2 May 2015. The exhibition at the Cavalieri Art Hotel runs through 23 May and features an “amalgamation of 10 years work.”
Abela works in various media including acrylics, pencil and objets-trouve. He places a high priority on experimentation, which allows him to be versatile. This versatility allows him to explore both the finer world of art and the world of crafts. The exhibited work includes fantasy, nude male figures and several pieces that feature social commentary.
Abela’s “Manifestation in Stone: The Gorgon (after Caravaggio)” is a 3-eyed, snake-haired masterpiece that sings with texture and leaps from the canvas. The colors enhance the overall effect as the Medusa seems to be minted rather than created.
However, Abela’s most striking works are those that seek to see the world in a different light. “Through the Spider’s Eye” and “Balcony: Astigmatism” are two examples of this different vision that highlights Abela’s creative powers. Abela has also created works that explore religion, the macabre and still life.
One of Abela’s goals is to use his art to make the world a better place. He is currently earning a master’s degree from the University of Malta’s Edward de Bono Institute and writing a dissertation exploring the possibilities of using art to further his altruistic goals.
