Be prepared to get your spot for Disneyland Forever fireworks
With the “Paint the Night” parade at 8:50 p.m. and the “Disneyland Forever” fireworks scheduled for 9:30 p.m., it is important to get your seats on Main Street, U.S.A. early, really early. The seating areas start getting crowded by 6 p.m., and it appears that some people never actually leave the area after “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” at 4:30 p.m.
Immediately following “Paint the Night,” guests crowd into the middle of Main Street U.S.A. while cast members put up ropes along the curbside to keep traffic flowing around the edges of the street. Once the ropes are up, it is difficult to squeeze in or under, and you are likely to end up behind someone who has a child on his or her shoulders. The parents can’t really be blamed as a good portion of the show takes place on the castle, and kids would have the worst vantage points of all if they had to stand on the ground or stay in a stroller. Fast movers may be able to go from the Plaza Inn or the Jolly Holiday Bakery to the street with time to spare, but anyone who lags behind will have to make do with poor sightlines if they get into the viewing area at all.
With animals parading down the buildings on Main Street, the Matterhorn bursting into flames and serving as the launching site for Tinkerbell and Nemo, and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle featuring multiple projections, “Disneyland Forever” uses all of the elements available to create an immersive show.
In the group crowded on Main Street, there is no such thing as personal space, and that is okay. When everyone breaks into “Let It Go,” it is like being with 10,000 friends who all love the same thing as you. The feels swell along with the music.
While it may seem like overkill to get into the area 2+ hours early for the parade and fireworks on Main Street, U.S.A., it is the best way to ensure that you will have the best chance of securing a prime viewing area for the fireworks spectacular, and on Main Street, it is really spectacular.
Frontierland and Fantasyland Viewing
Those viewing the first showing of Fantasmic have the opportunity to see “Disneyland Forever” afterwards. While the viewing area doesn’t have the homey feeling of Main Street, U.S.A., it does have added fireworks elements, but viewers will miss Tinkerbell and Nemo. The viewing at It’s a Small World also lacks the hominess of Main Street and Tinkerbell is only briefly visible. However, the façade of It’s a Small World has added projection elements. It also is easier to find place to stand for those who are too late to get to Main Street, especially since the parade starts here, which means that it ends here as well. That gives people a little extra time to find space while also eliminating some of the crowd as they follow the parade out of the area.
