Vic Mignogna reaches for the stars with joy and creativity
Vic Mignogna apologized to the two people who were supposed to host him during his session at Salt Lake Comic Con 2014. To the delight of the fans and possibly the chagrin of the cameraman, the lighting techs and the hosts, Mignogna refused to stay in one place or even on the stage. Instead, he roamed onto the floor and into the audience telling stories and sharing energy with his fans.
“I always brag to them,” says Mignogna about the stars that he says are rich and famous. “You don’t have the greatest fans in the world.” Meeting Darth Vader At one comic convention, David “Darth Vader” Prowse kept looking at Mignogna’s sign above the table where Mignogna was signing autographs and meeting fans. Mignogna did his best not to look at Prowse while interacting with fans, but it was Darth Vader. Finally Prowse came over and stood at Mignogna’s shoulder. Mignogna politely asked the fan in front of him to wait just a moment, and Mignogna greeted Prowse. Prowse asked Mignogna what Full Metal Alchemist was. “And the 12-year-old in me was like ‘Darth Vader just asked me about Full Metal,’” says Mignogna. Star Trek When Mignogna was young, it was all about Star Trek. He made a fan video, which he showed a portion of to those in attendance, at the age of 12 that included beaming sequences, a communicator and a phase pistol. His obsession with Star Trek has carried over to the present day with his new series at startrekcontinues.com. “If you don’t like Star Trek, that’s fine; I bet someone in your family does,” says Mignogna. His award winning series currently has three episodes on line, and Mignogna says that he has had several people tell him that it was like reliving the old series. Creative Impulses “I love all things creative,” says Mignogna. “My life is like a pie.” There is a voice acting piece, an acting piece and a music piece. Each of those pieces can change in proportion to the others. When someone asks which he would choose if he had to pick just one, he says, “I would choose death.” Real Happiness Life is about taking joy in what you do. People who think that being famous or rich or having a big house will make them happy “are sorely mistaken.” “Find something that you love and do that,’ says Mignogna. “Find things in life that give you joy.’ Mignogna sets his alarm for noon every day, and no matter what he is doing when it goes off, he stops to give a prayer of thanks. It has gotten him into a trouble a couple of times, but that doesn’t stop him – even when he is in the middle of recording. “Gratitude is the key to joy and happiness in life,” says Mignogna. “I start out every day so grateful.” |
