'Paint the Night' parade opens for 'Disneyland Forever!' fireworks
Disneyland’s new “Paint the Night” parade is overwhelmed by its Disneyland Forever! Fireworks. Parades aren’t really my thing. My sister loved them growing up, but I find them a bit boring. Having to sit in one spot to wait for floats as they pass by just seemed like a waste of time, especially when the alternatives included eating at any of the sit down restaurants in the park, riding on Space Mountain or meeting Mickey Mouse.
Using the “Baroque Hoedown,’ the song that accompanied the original “Main Street Electrical Parade,” as a backbone, the parade goes down the route in lights that are brilliant, bright and hard on the eyes. This parade’s novelty is its interactive element. Paint brushes that will take on the color of other paint brushes, the floats and the light up ears that help people be part of the show can also pass those colors on to the same elements.
One guest went behind the crowd seated for the parade and used his paint brush to change the other paint brush colors without people knowing it. You could almost hear the fairies from Sleeping Beauty saying “Make it pink!” “Make it blue!” (Why aren’t they in this parade? It seems custom made for them and their color battle.)
The best reason to sit down for “Paint the Night” is that the fireworks follow immediately afterward. The parade, which starts at 8:50, runs its course, and people stand up to get to the middle of Main Street U.S.A. A good seat for the parade means an awesome standing area for the fireworks, and you have to get there early on busy days. Enjoy the people watching, sit in shifts and remember that Disneyland does not support any saving of seats, so be vigilant and hope everyone else recognizes that you have sacrificed most of your day to get just the right seat for you and your family. Yes, Disneyland Forever! Is worth the wait, especially if you are on Main Street.
