Convention in Salt Lake on a budget?
Stay at HoJO Express
For those attending a conference in Salt Lake City at the Salt Palace, staying for an event at EnergySolutions Arena or making a play for deals at the Gateway Mall, there is one great hotel choice that won’t break the bank – Howard Johnson Express at 121 N 300 W.
Location, Location, Location
The HoJo Express is located two blocks away from the east entrance to the Salt Palace if you are willing to cross a parking lot diagonally. For someone attending Salt Lake Comic Con, that means about a 6 minute walk. Talk about amazingly close. It was a dream to be able to walk to my favorite events and not have to worry about parking or walking a long way.
Abravenal Hall is right in that area, and EnergySolutions Arena is not farther away than three blocks. The Gateway Mall is only about four blocks to the Megaplex Theater, which again made it really simple to get to the Salt Lake Comic Con movie festival. Because the HoJo Express is located north of Temple Street, the neighborhood is as safe as any other.
Price for a Room
Two king-sized beds cost $69 on weekdays and $79 on weekends. Prices are subject to change, but the cost to stay there was a third of the other close hotels in the area, and none of those hotels were actually closer.
Quality of Staff
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Front desk, housekeeping and even the guy who ran the continental breakfast made sure that the stay was comfortable.
The Only Complaint
The Wi-Fi sucks – a lot. However, if you are in Salt Lake City for Salt Lake Comic Con or any other convention, and you don’t necessarily care about the Internet, you should absolutely choose the HoJo Express.
I know how important it is to find reasonable accommodations that are clean, close and affordable. HoJo Express in Salt Lake City meets all of those criteria and leaves you with more money to spend at your convention. More money to spend at Salt Lake Comic con? Yes, please.
