Disney's Hollywood Studios morning plan
Start the day with Midway Mania
Aug. 25, 2012 - no fastpasses, 90 minute wait.
Disney’s Hollywood Studio, Aug. 2012 – Disney’s Hollywood Studios has, for all intents and purposes, two major rides – Toy Story Midway Mania and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith. Anyone who has just one day to visit the park and who wants to ride Midway Mania should head straight past the left side of the Sorcerer’s Hat when the park opens and make a left toward the Pixar Studios where the Midway Mania line is.
The tricky question is how long to wait to get a Fastpass for the ride. Should you get a Fastpass first and then get in line or ride the attraction and then get a Fastpass? That depends on how much you like the ride and when you want to ride it again. Both times I went to the park, the wait was between 70 and 110 minutes, and because I went mid-morning and afternoon, the Fastpasses were all gone. Remember that Fastpasses are appointments that you must keep in order for them to be valid. They give you a one hour time period to return to the line. The other thing that you need to know about fast passes is that you will not be eligible to get another Fastpass at Hollywood Studios until you have entered the beginning time of your last Fastpass. That means if your Fastpass says to return to the attraction between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., not only do you need to be there during that time period, but also that the next time you have Fastpass availability will be at 3 p.m. The appeal of the Midway Mania attraction is that it is an interactive experience based on favorite characters from the Toy Story trilogy and featuring 4-D effects. It is fun for adults and children, so the whole family can enjoy and participate without anyone feeling left out. The Midway Mania attraction at Disney’s California Adventure had wait times of about 45 minutes at the beginning of August, which is supposed to be Disneyland’s busiest season. Walt Disney World on the other hand tends to have a downturn in attendance near the end of August. It’s busiest season are the week before Christmas through the New Year. Once you have experienced Midway Mania, head over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. During my visits to the park, wait times were anywhere between 20 and 70 minutes. If the wait time is anywhere below 45 minutes, go ahead and get in line. Otherwise, see if a Fastpass is available for you and the attraction. There are other large attractions at Hollywood Studios – most notably Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Star Tours – the wait times for these were easily managed with none being overly long. There are also several shows worth going to. |
