50's Prime Time Cafe offers a taste of home served by familyThe 50’s Prime Time Café is a bit of a misnomer. Serving food at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, 50’s Prime Time Café is really your mother’s kitchen from the 1950s – even if your mother wasn’t alive then and/or she never cooked for you.
The restaurant features televisions playing snippets favorite shows and commercials from the 1950s including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mickey Mouse Club and Car 54, Where Are You? The food is eclectic with all of the family’s favorites – fried chicken, meat loaf, pot roast and even spaghetti with vegetarian meatballs. (I had smores for dessert – the chocolate was melted and the marshmallows were toasted like they never were at a campsite.) As good as the food is and as retro cool as the décor is, these are not the reasons why you need to visit the 50’s Prime Time Café. It is the staff and the other diners that makes this a truly outstanding eating experience. This isn’t a café; it is a family reunion of all the cousins you have never met. Mom is in the kitchen making food for the family, the cousins are serving you and your cousins, and they play this to the hilt. The table won’t set itself. If you don’t follow the rules – no whining, no fighting and no elbows on the table – you may face some consequences. There are a myriad of scenarios that can happen during a meal, and when everyone plays along, the good times ensue. Expect to be introduced to your cousins at the next table, and expect to have a good time. This place is a riot. |
