- Join a High Road for Human Rights Team. This was the most important thing anyone could do to make their community better. These grass roots teams work on the human rights implications of the climate crisis, genocide, slavery, the death penalty and torture and the rule of law. (Editors note: High Road for Human Rights has since closed.)
- Write letters. A hand-written letter is so rare these days that lawmakers take notice when someone sends them one. Letters may also be sent by email.
- Educate in the schools. Children love to see adults other than the teacher in class. It lets them know that education is important.
- Make or show a documentary film. With the right computer programs, anyone can make a film. Creating a documentary about an issue is a good way to begin change. Look at Super-Size Me. Not everyone has the creativity to make a documentary. Gathering friends and having a showing at home is another good way to start a conversation about an issue.
- Partner with other organizations that are doing what you are passionate about. In the non-profit world, it’s all about passion. People who do what they are passionate about lead more fulfilling lives and make the world better.
