- Learn about your community. Find out who lives there, what there is and make sure to take a larger view. Expand your community beyond the 5 blocks you would normally consider. Find out who lives on the other side of State Street or Redwood Road.
- Get to know the different aspects of the community. Experience the People’s Market in Glendale and the Fiesta Mexicana in September and the Living Traditions Festival that happens in May. Enjoy the great subcultures that Salt Lake City has to offer.
- Become a vocal proponent for a unified community. Myths need to be dispelled by individuals who look beyond themselves. Choose to be that person. Learn to differentiate fact from fiction and then talk to your neighbors and friends about it.
- Get out there and volunteer in the immigrant community. There are a lot of good things out there. Find a cause to be enthusiastic about and champion it. Volunteer at a school or a Boys and Girls Club. Establish relationships and make friends. Get really involved with an organization.
- Donate. “Money can always be put to good use.”
