- Communicate. “We have to be able to talk with each other to get anything done,” says Ferreira. Whether it’s in the legislature or in schools, we need to be able to talk with one another.
- Expect Change. “One of the hardest things to change is what you’re doing,” says Ferriera. If you aren’t recycling, it’s hard to start. “Life is a process of change.”
- Strive for Perfection. If we always try to do our best, the outcomes will be better than mediocre. “It’s good enough isn’t good enough,” says Ferriera. By doing something more, you will be happier with the outcome.
- Include Others. We need to reach out to groups that we don’t ordinarily communicate with, and we need to speak in terms that make sense to them. If someone is concerned about profit margins, talk to them about how they will save money instead of talking to them about how they will save the environment.
- Respect Everything and Everyone. By caring about what you are doing and finding the common ground, even with those who don’t agree with you, you can be genuine and exude respect and understanding.
