Spice Girls get Microsoft sponsorship, change name to Skype Girls
The Spice Girls may get back together for another world tour in honor of the 20th anniversary of their hit “Wannabe.” However, reports coming out of Microsoft headquarters is that the group is in special negotiations to boost one of Microsoft’s most underrated properties. When Baby, Ginger, Scary and Sporty go out on tour, Microsoft will be their major sponsor, and the group will have a minor name change as well as some minor shifts in lyrics and song titles. Instead of calling themselves the Spice Girls, the group will become the Skype Girls.
Microsoft feels that the group already has a song in place that catches the essence of Skype. “Spice Up Your Life” will be rereleased as “Skype Up Your Life.” The video will be shot in libraries, cafes and bus stops around the world and include people from everywhere. A contest should be announce soon that will allow fans to become a part of the action by uploading their best dance moves on YouTube, which will then be spliced into the video; watch for #SkypeUpYourLife to begin trending on Twitter as the contest rolls into full swing.
If the reunion and the sponsorship workout, fans may get to see a sequel to the movie “Spice World.” The sequel will be called “Skype World” and be entirely filmed on web cams and mobile devices. The film revolves around the misadventures of the Skype Girls as they separate and roam around the world only to realize that they should have never broken up the band. Their manager is able to contact each of the girls, and they try to find each other and make it to their tour venue before they are supposed to go on stage. The heartwarming story will remind movie goers that nothing is more important than music and friendship.
Microsoft is in negotiations with other actors, including Posh Spice and David Beckham, to play the part of photobombers as all communication and filming is done through Skype in public locations. The Muppets will be special advisors on the film.
