The best thing about Salt Lake City Bonus #2:
The Charming Beard, The Chocolate Conspiracy, Kiler Grove and Beehive Cheese
Salt Lake City has a diverse and growing artisan food market that includes places like Charming Beard, Chocolate Conspiracy, Kiler Grove Winery and Beehive Cheese. These local companies produce high quality and award winning foods that cater to the discerning palate. Because they are locally owned and operated, they are also contributing to the local economy in a big way.
Charming Beard
Local coffee roaster, Charming Beard, specializes in single origin, small batch coffees. These coffees emphasize the flavor of the coffee bean. They bring out each regions distinct tastes. Because of the process of single sourcing, Charming Beard is able to ensure that they use only sustainably farmed coffee beans. They have participated in the Downtown Farmers Market and may be found at local coffee shops in Salt Lake City or on the Internet.
The Chocolate Conspiracy
Located at 265 E 900 S, the Chocolate Conspiracy roasts and creates its own chocolate bars. The idea is to create chocolate bars that retain their nutritional value and taste great. The Chocolate Conspiracy also offers chocolate nibs that can be ground and brewed like coffee beans. They only use organic chocolate that is traded fairly and kosher. That only enhances the flavor. If you want to taste great locally made chocolate and meet someone who is passionate about what he does, the Chocolate Conspiracy is the place to go, and AJ, the owner, is the person to meet.
Kiler Grove Winery
If you didn’t know that there is a winery on downtown Salt Lake, you are not alone. Kiler Grove is an urban winery that gets its grapes from the family vineyard in California and other select regions. The winery produces a Rhone-style wine in Salt Lake where connoisseurs can taste and purchase the wines. This is one place where the Zion Curtain isn’t closed. They are located at 53 W. Truman Ave.
Beehive Cheese
Cheese, like bacon, is a food with a cult status. Who doesn’t like cheese? Beehive Cheese is made in North Utah with the shop located at 2440 E 6600 S, Uintah, UT. While this is outside of the bounds of Salt Lake City, Beehive cheese can be purchased in many grocery stores and has been seen at the Downtown Farmers Market. The company produces several different kinds of cheese including the spicy Big John’s Cajun, the espresso and lavender rubbed Barely Buzzed and the patriarch of the Beehive Cheese family Promontory
With foods from companies like these, there is no reason to look anywhere else to have your cravings met. While the food is the real reward, the bonus is that you will also be supporting the economy and doing good things for the environment. That sounds like three wins, and tastes better.
