Going the extra Myles: Eve Myles fans the flames at Salt Lake Comic Con 2014
The crowd erupted as Eve Myles stepped onto the stage. The roar was so deafening and unexpected for the Torchwood star that she put her hand to her mouth and started to cry. The ovation lasted several minutes as she made her way to the chair at center stage and was clearly overwhelmed by the fans’ adoration. She even mocked collapsed to the floor.
Myles was everything that the best comic con presenters are – genuine, mostly uncensored, though she kept the presentation rated PG-13, and honest. Myles likes the fact that she is able “to play a female character that doesn’t have to be teeth, tits and ass.” Cooper is intelligent, sexy and brave. “I wouldn’t want to do it without John; I don’t think Gwen works without Captain Jack,” says Myles on whether or not she would do a solo series based on Gwen Cooper. When a fan talks about meeting John Barrowman, Myles says with love in her voice that one experience with the Barrowman is enough to terrify anybody. “John Barrowman is my soul mate, and I love him with every hair on my body, and I’m a hairy Welsh woman,” says Myles. Myles says the both Barrowman and her do not think that they tell their fans enough how much they appreciate the fans. “I had absolutely no idea that it would be the biggest audition of my life,” says Myles about “the Unquiet Dead.” The biggest change when Torchwood moved to Starz from the BBC? “We had a budget for the first time ever,” says Myles. “Craft [food services] played its part on me.” An assistant came in and very tactfully told Myles about Spanx, for which Myles gave thanks to the God of Spanx because now she can eat as many burgers as she wants. Burn Gorman is the best screen kisser. Her favorite guest leads include James Marsters and Peter Capaldi. Her dream role is Wonder Woman. “My favorite episode without a doubt is ‘Countryside,’” says Myles. “Mainly because we got Gareth Lloyd out of a suit.” And he looked good in jeans. Myles says that she isn’t going to change anything about the way she looks. She is fine with the gap in her teeth and everything else. “You play the cards you’ve been dealt, and you play them well,” says Myles. Be confident and be good to those around you. Other inspirational words “The braver and the bolder you are, the better you write,” says Myles. “You get knocked down; you get back up.” |
