Community Shares makes workplace giving easy
Community Shares consists of about 20 different non-profits, most of them local and small, that have come together to make doing the business of non-profits easier. Organizations that are a part of Community Shares receive training, have a valuable network of other people who are in the same type of business and participate in the workplace giving program.
“Every member agency of Community Shares is a voting member,” says Stephanie Steele, president of the board of directors at Community Shares. That means that the non-profits who are involved in Community Shares get to say how the undesignated funds that come in from the workplace campaign get divided.
Presentations are generally given in the fall for the workplace giving program, and they may be done at the same time as the United Way and Utah Health Charities. Businesses wishing to be involved in the workplace giving program, click here.
Stephanie says that part of what makes Community Shares different from those two agencies is that Community Shares works with environmental and animal non-profits.
Community Shares tries to keep cost down by not advertising. Meetings are held in a donated space, and participants bring their own lunch.
