Adam Baldwin's Gruff Veneer comes down at FanX
“Kubrick – he would make a production so that he was in
control of all aspects,” says Adam Baldwin. If the scene was done in one or two
takes, he’d say we got it.
Baldwin says that his wife and children keep him grounded. “The theater is very embracing of misfits,” says Baldwin. He was a misfit in high school. Baldwin’s father said “I don’t judge people by the group they’re in; I judge them by their own merits.” |

“I’ve raised three kids. Baby needs new shoes sometimes,” says Baldwin of some of his role choices.
Baldwin’s wife understands the time that he spends away from home.
“It’s about your partnership with your spouse and how you balance that,” says Baldwin.
He was shooting a Roger Corman film on the Amazon, and the crew would have to take these little boats down the river.
“The little boats started to sink, and I remember thinking I don’t want to drink any of this water,” says Baldwin.
“The great thing about voice over work is that you only have talented people you’re working with,” says Baldwin.
Joss Whedon “introduced me to the world of sci-fi,” says Baldwin.
“In Jayne’s mind, Inara’s the perfect woman,” says Baldwin.
“Mal can’t die,” says Baldwin.
“Maybe he would find his own ship,” says Baldwin about Jayne. “Maybe he would go and visit his mom.”
Baldwin’s favorite scene in Serenity is the opening chase scene. He also liked the scene when River beats Jayne up in the bar.
John Casey’s growl is a cross between disgust and indigestion.
“It sort of formed organically,” says Baldwin. “It’s a grumpy thing to do.”
Baldwin’s favorite Chuck scene involved the helicopter and the M131 mini-gun.
“I really enjoy the scenes with Morgan and Chuck [at the beginning of the series] because they were getting to know each other as people and actors,” says Baldwin.
“Gomez is a hilarious man,” says Baldwin.
Baldwin attributes Casey a lot to his dad – gruff and scary.
“Which is what a dad is supposed to be,” says Casey. Dad is not your friend; he’s your dad.
“Romantically, I miss Jayne Cobb more,” says Baldwin. Casey had a full 91 episodes and a complete story arc. Jayne didn’t get that.
“Casey’s a better shot clearly, but Jayne is 10 years younger,” says Baldwin on who would win in a fight. “Jayne would cheat better, too.”
“For steady work, television is great,” says Baldwin. Movies are hit or miss.
Baldwin will be on The Last Ship on TNT starting June 22, 2014.
“We are charged with basically saving the world,” says Baldwin.
