Spoiler alert. Do not read any further if you do not want to know the twist of a classic Twilight Zone episode. There is a story by Richard Matheson, a writer who worked on the Twilight Zone, called “Button, Button.” In it, a couple in a dire financial position is offered a large sum of money if they press a button. Of course, the button triggers the death of someone they do not know, and they are told this up front. So the story revolves around their decision to press or not press the button. In the end, one of the pair pushes the button. The other cries out “What have you done?!?” and the man that gave them the button shows up at their door with a check. When the person who pushed the button asks where the man will take it, he replies ominously, “To someone you do not know.” You have just exhibited the opposite behavior.
