Tom Cruise doing Tom Cruisey things at the 'Edge of Tomorrow'
This vapid, popcorn action science fiction movie is exactly what you would expect from Tom Cruise in the summer. Cruise plays a man who joined the military to be a part of its PR team because his ad agency went under when the aliens arrived and began taking over Europe. He becomes the man who cannot die when he sucks up the power to reset time, which he has to do by dying.
Cruise does all of the impossible things that you would expect Cruise to do except dance in his underwear, which he leaves to another actor in the film, and Cruise takes Emily Blunt along for the ride. There is nothing wrong with this film. It is a big budget action film with actors who play their parts well and good special effects. Maybe that is what is wrong with this film – it has nothing to recommend it with all of the so-much-better films out and coming out. Groundhog Day explored the idea behind living one day over and over again much better than this film. Edge of Tomorrow is a late Friday night Netflix movie. It is decent enough, but it leaves nothing to come out of the theater with. |
