According to Steve Jobs, creativity is about connecting the dots. Creative people aren’t smarter or more gifted, they just have more dots to connect. These dots are made up of diverse experiences and knowledge about subject areas that may not fall in their wheelhouse, normally. Creative people are curious about everything, so they try to learn as much as possible. What they learn may not help them now or even in the next year, but they know that at some point, the information will come in handy to solve a problem.
You can give yourself more dots to connect, even if you don’t really like new experiences. You will have to get a little uncomfortable, but you can start small.
