Cary Elwes 'Saw' dedication, acting and family life
On ‘Saw’
Director James Wan’s dedication to the film sold Elwes on taking the role by showing Elwes a detailed blue print of a functional reverse bear trap.
On ‘From the Earth to the Moon’
Tom Hanks required the cast to learn the exact buttons to push for flying the space vehicle.
According to Elwes, Hanks said that astronauts would be watching the show, and “if they see you push the eject button, it’s not cool.”
The moon rover is still on the moon.
“That’s how great America is. We put a car on the moon,” says Elwes. “Guess where the keys are – under the visor.”
On ‘Granite Flats’
“I really loved it,” says Elwes. “I thought it was very sweet.”
He would love to come back to the show.
“The folks on that show are some of the nicest” I ever worked with, says Elwes.
On acting
“I love working. If the script appeals to me,” and has a good story with a good character, Elwes says that’s pretty much all it takes.
Elwes says that it is a toss-up on whether he would rather play a hero or a villain.
“Villains often have the best lines but so do heroes,” says Elwes.
On his personal life
Elwes met his wife at a chili cook off in Malibu, and at the time, neither of them really liked chili.
“I don’t eat red meat,” says Elwes. I only eat birds that don’t fly very well, like chickens and turkeys but not emus.
His wife now makes the best chili he has ever eaten, and he keeps trying to get her to enter it into a chili cook off.
“My favorite sound is the sound of my daughter laughing,” says Elwes.
Elwes was a gracious guest who took the initiative to shake hands with each fan that asked a question. He also asked con goers to support the artists that were at Salt Lake Comic Con.
