Power Rangers S.P.D. at Emerald Valley Comic Fest
During a panel at the Emerald Valley Comic Fest, Chris Violette and Alycia Purrott talked about their experiences as Power Rangers. As part of the Power Rangers S.P.D., the two actors told stories about how they got to be Power Rangers and what it was like on set.
“Learning and training to be a Power Ranger was surreal,” says Purrott. The experience continues to give back.
When Violette tried out, he says “this was like the job to get.” The combat training was a bonus to the filming in New Zealand for a year. Violette though that the show was well cast and the writers helped with that.
“The writers would get to know us as individuals,” says Violette. They would write the characters for us.
Violette’s character Sky Tate had an important lesson to learn about life. Because his father was the Red Ranger, Tate felt that being another color ranger would be a letdown.
“Sky had to learn that being part of a team was more important than leading a team,” says Violette. “Our season was definitely a lot of drama.”
It was hard to take Commander Doggie Cruger seriously because the actor couldn’t see out of the costume. He would say his line, turn and walk into a wall or a planter.
The cast didn’t get to keep anything from the set, but Violette was caught trying (see video).
