Mad Max brings the crazy
Mad Max: Fury Road is a dirty, dark, apocalyptic film that remains true to its original with one exception. This film does not center on the title character. Max is in it, but he is more of a thread that allows the story to be told. While other characters are allowed the opportunity to grow and shine, Max plays the same role that Captain Jack Sparrow – keep audience interest while exploring the depths of his madness.
Charlize Theron carries the film and deserves the accolades she has received. The film itself is another story. The first half of the film is filled with a lot of wondering what the hell is going on, and the second half is finally realizing that it doesn’t really matter. The Mad Max story is well established, so there is no reason to expect anything other than a trip down the rabbit hole. Tom Hardy brings all the crazy to the role that anyone could want. Mad Max is not about the dialogue. In fact, the movie would not actually suffer if there weren’t any dialogue at all. It is all about madness, visuals, grit and crazy cars chasing crazy vehicles. Normally, I would rail against a film being inappropriately named; however, Mad Max: Fury Road has enough of Max to make it worthwhile. |
