Recall your personal adventures at the happiest place on Earth with 'Dispatch from Disneyland'
John Frost’s ‘Dispatches from Disneyland’ is a collection of short stories, essays and speculations about Disneyland and the people who make the magic happen. Cast members and guests are both featured in some essays – the story of a particular couple who would be on the dance floor for years is a highlight of the collection. Frost also treats readers to real-time observations, which bring the atmosphere of the park home to those who have been there.
Frost explores what the park may be like in the future with an essay on Total Immersion Experiences and the virtual reality that would come with it. These essays were written before the announcement of the new Star Wars land, which will have some of the same elements. However, perhaps the best feature of the book is its ability to take the reader back to Disneyland with evocative images and observations that, while instructive for the neophyte or a first-time Disneyland visitor, are really more entertaining and relatable to someone who has been there over the years several times. Whether you need an entertaining diversion or you just want to feel a little Disney magic, Frost’s book makes a nice read. The stories are small, so if you are a bathroom reader, this is great to have in the stack! |
