KCPW provides Utah unbiased, unfettered news
KCPW is the news and information station for the Salt Lake area. Found at 88.3 FM and 105.3 FM on the radio dial, KCPW covers what is going on locally in the news and brings listeners NPR programming throughout the day. At night, the station broadcasts BBC radio live.
The focus of the news staff, which includes 3 reporters and Jeff Robinson, the news director, is on capital city issues, including city, county and state government.
“We report on issues that have the greatest relevance to our listeners,” says Ed Sweeney, president and chief executive officer for KCPW.
Typical listeners of KCPW are professional, college graduates who vote and are spread across the political spectrum in equal numbers.
“There is a segment in our community that wants unbiased, unfettered news,” says Sweeney. KCPW brings listeners that news through old-fashioned reporting techniques.
“It’s important that people know what’s going on,” says Sweeney. “We provide news for non-profits and city government that you don’t find on other news sources.”
Wasatch Public Media is the non-profit organization, licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, that owns KCPW.
About 10% of the station’s funding comes from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The other 90% comes from pledge drives and underwriting messages.
