The Downtown Farmers Market in Salt Lake City will open for the season on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Market hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors at the market come from a 200 mile radius providing fresh-picked that day, in season fruits and vegetables.
“We’ve got one of the greatest selections of produce,” says Market Manager Kim Angeli.
The Downtown Farmers Market has teamed up with Harmon’s to provide seasonal cooking classes. Harmon’s will create recipes for each month based on what’s available at the market and hold demos for those recipes once each month.
Those participating in the market this year include East Farms featuring snap peas, spring greens and herbs. Wilkerson Organics will be bringing strawberries by the case to the early part of the market.
“A strawberry from the market is a flavor sensation,” says Angeli.
The Spice Incubator Kitchen, a program of the International Refugee Committee, will also be present at the Downtown Farmers Market. The Kitchen program provides refugees with training in how to get their food products to the market and be successful at it.
The Downtown Farmers Market began in 1992 and features local farmers, artisans and artists. It is located at Pioneer Park on 300 S. 300 W. The last market for 2014 will be on Oct. 25.
