Boys and Girls Clubs work on academics, health and character
Any child from first grade through high school can join the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake for a small annual fee of $10. The clubs’ members have an opportunity to have their voice heard about activities that are held at the club, and professional staff work to ensure that children are engaged in programs that focus on three pillars:
“Our aim is to be as accessible as possible to kids whose parents are not making choices about [the children’s] time outside of school,” said LeAnn Saldivar, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake.
To help children succeed academically, the club offers homework help and tutoring. It also has a financial literacy program that teaches basic budgeting and gives the children the sense that they can control their spending.
The club encourages children to live healthy lifestyles through a variety of physical activities like individual and team sports and by presenting nutritional information. Through interaction with their peers and service work done in the clubs, children build character and learn to be better citizens.
