The only thing that guarantees freedom in America is money. Those with millions of dollars are infinitely freer compared to those who are just making ends meet. Those who are wealthy can choose to work, vacation and do what they want with very few limitations. Even the wealthy who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law end up with a more forgiving justice system and country club prisons if convicted of whatever crime.
Corporations run roughshod over individual rights of freedom of speech by limiting social networking and employee opinions, freedom of religion by requiring employees to work on church holy days including Saturdays for some and Sundays for others, and the right to freedom of the press by suing journalists and threatening the media oligarchies that own the press. While employees are on the job, they have little freedom in choosing what they do, and it does not change much when they come exhausted and find that their expenses are not covered by their paychecks.
The price that must be paid can be measured in dollars and cents. Until the American public decides to vote for what is in its best interest rather than what is in the best interest of those in power including corporations, the poor will continue to be deprived of their freedoms, and everyone not in the one percent will suffer.
