Maybe I have just used the Locks of Love organization as a convenient excuse for not cutting my hair. Telling people that I was growing my hair out to help children who have cancer took the pressure off of having to do something that I really think is a waste of time. No one really cares what my hair looks like, or at least, no one should care. Going to the hair salon means travel time, sitting in the waiting area time, actually getting the haircut time and coming home and taking a shower time – all of which I could do something better with. (The list of things I find better than taking the time involved to cut my hair is longer than I care to list here.)
So while I am succumbing to the peer and societal pressure to get my hair cut again, I have decided that I can still make a donation to Locks of Love. Today, I will be making a monetary donation that Locks of Love can use in any way that the organization needs. Because non-profits have expenses beyond just providing the visible services, I am sure that Locks of Love can use the money at least as much as they can use the hair.
Please consider making your own donation to Locks of Love or your favorite charity for no other reason than it’s the right thing to do, and this is one of the slow times of year for donations overall.
