After losing his job, his fiancé dumps him and his brother shows up to save Hank from himself. They go to the Hamptons for a party. A woman appears to OD, and the doctor on hand is about to treat her when Hank stops him. Hank saves the woman’s life and finds himself cajoled into a new career as a concierge doctor.
A concierge doctor is supposed to treat the rich so that everything can remain quiet. For Hank this often means facing severe medical issues without the necessary hospital equipment. That’s okay. He can treat a hemophiliac’s internal bleeding with a plastic bag, a knife and a ball-point pen. He can treat bleeding in the brain with a bunch of towels, a silver tray and a drill with a half inch drill bit. He can stop an epidemic with paper towel tube and a jeweler’s loupe.
Hank Lawson is a medical genius. His brother is the comic relief who fouls everything up, talks too loud and every once in a while, makes good. Along with the rest of the cast, they create a compelling dramedy that just stretches the boundaries of the suspension of disbelief.
