I know that I have family who will be happy to have me stay with them. I have a couple of friends who will probably offer up a couch and a meal, but the thing is that I shouldn’t have to call on them at this point in my life. Of course, there are a lot of things that should have happened by now and haven’t, and a lot of things that shouldn’t have happened but have.
At any rate, I have come to the conclusion that what I want doesn’t matter. It never has. Things in life do not make a life. They might make a life better, but without a life, they are meaningless. So while my ability to buy the things I want has gone and my ability to buy the things that I need is in question, my Christmas list hasn’t changed much in the last decade.
If you are considering getting me a gift, I already have everything I need. My family is visiting for the holidays. Instead of sending me something, take the money that you would have spent on a gift and donate it to a charity – your favorite charity, even if it is a charity I don’t believe in. As long as you believe in the cause that your donation will support, I will be happy.
If you insist on getting me a gift, please choose something handmade. A card would be wonderful; an email will also work. A couple of clicks on my articles at examiner.com would also be a nice gesture or watch a video on YouTube – either way I get a pittance tossed my way.
I hope these holidays will find you treasuring your family – blood or chosen – more than ever. The time we spend together is more precious than we can ever imagine. Peace.
