Because drivers have a might-makes-right mentality, it’s important not to step off the sidewalk into a driveway without looking out for the vehicle. If you see one coming, wait. Do not assume that the driver will stop for you.
At a corner with a crosswalk (or zebra stripe), you’ll see a red man and a countdown. When the light changes, a green man begins the journey with you. His legs move back and forth. As the timer counts down, the legs move faster. Of course, every crosswalk is a little different, sometimes the green man walks faster, sometimes he just stands there, frozen in step. There is even a light where the green man looks like he’s dancing.
