You may or may not have read about Irina and my Adventure on the Amur looking for the Treasure of Nikolai Nikolaevich. It was a crazy time, especially since it started even before I had ever seen my workplace! Of course, I don’t know what the next adventure will be. Maybe you have a better idea. Hey everyone! I’m so excited for the opportunity I have to work with the Amur Regional Museum. Apparently, they would like to reach out to English speaking audiences for their museum collection. I’ll be working with the research department, so I’ll get to figure out how to deal with records and other archived museum materials! But what I am really looking forward to is enjoying a new city with a new culture. I’ve been working on learning Russian! The Cyrillic alphabet is difficult, but at least the words are phonetic – if you can remember which syllable gets the emphasis. I’ve already been in touch with my boss, Irina. Her English is pretty good, and the couple of Skype conversations we’ve had have been informative. Apparently, it gets really cold there, but I am arriving in spring. I don’t think it’ll be that bad. Anyway, I am told that part of my job will be writing small interpretations of museum displays, so you can expect that in the coming weeks. Just be sure to follow my friend and alter-ego on Twitter or use the RSS feed here. I’m sure my adventures on the Amur are going to be amazing. Until then, I better learn some more about the culture, language and area. Yikes! Check out these links for more on Blagoveshchensk! Steve EvansAs an intern, I have been tasked with helping the museum to bring information about the Amur Region and the Russian Far East to the English speaking Internet. While my Russian skills are terrible, I have tried my best to do the correct research for each entry. Archives
