But what I am really looking forward to is enjoying a new city with a new culture. I’ve been working on learning Russian! The Cyrillic alphabet is difficult, but at least the words are phonetic – if you can remember which syllable gets the emphasis.
I’ve already been in touch with my boss, Irina. Her English is pretty good, and the couple of Skype conversations we’ve had have been informative. Apparently, it gets really cold there, but I am arriving in spring. I don’t think it’ll be that bad.
Anyway, I am told that part of my job will be writing small interpretations of museum displays, so you can expect that in the coming weeks. Just be sure to follow my friend and alter-ego on Twitter or use the RSS feed here. I’m sure my adventures on the Amur are going to be amazing. Until then, I better learn some more about the culture, language and area. Yikes!
